Who is Debtworks?
Debtworks are a privately owned debt collection company that work on behalf of clients in New Zealand and globally. If we have contacted you, it's probably to do with a debt you may owe to one of our clients.

Debtworks has been sent your debt because you didn't pay our client on time.
Debtworks are now responsible for working with you to get this debt resolved.

What if I can't pay?
If you struggle to pay in full today it's best you let us know as soon as possible.
The better we understand your financial situation, the more we can help you. Potentially we can work out a payment plan that is acceptable to both you and us.
What is a credit default?
When Debtworks is asked to collect a debt, the first thing we do is send you a letter or an email. If we do not receive payment or setup a payment arrangement with you then we may register your details with a credit bureau which is called a credit default.
A credit default will stay on your financial record for 5 years.
If I pay this debt will my credit default be removed?
No - a credit default stays on your record for 5 years even if you have paid the debt in full.
Paying a debt in full or working out a payment plan immediately ensures you do not have a credit default which may affect your ability to obtain credit in the future.
What if I dispute this debt?
You have a right to dispute a debt if you think it is not yours, what was supplied was not up to standard or you disagree with the amount owing.

Why do you ask for my personal financial info?
If you can’t pay in full, our client needs to determine how much you can afford to pay which is reasonable to them and you.
To make that decision, they may need details of your income, expenses, assets and liabilities.

Can I add a third party to my account?
Yes you can. A third party is any person authorised by you to act on your behalf. This person/s can be anyone such as, but not limited to a Family Member, a Friend or Guardian, a Financial Advisor, Solicitor or Trustee.
What if I have a complaint about Debtworks?
Our complaints process is designed to be accessible and all complaints are treated seriously. We have a dedicated Compliance officer who takes all complaints seriously with the aim of handling them fairly, objectively and efficiently.
